ReplyDeleteI got an ipod touch and a facebook. yay!
ReplyDeleteMrs. Smith-i wrote the same thing in the theater blog...am i allowed 2 do that? :/
I went iceskating, and I did not fall down!
ReplyDeleteMe and my sibs had a sleepover at my aunt's house. That night we were going to go ice skating outdoors in downtown Raleigh, but that failed when we saw how small the rink was and how many people there were. Instead, we walked around and saw the beautiful decorations that were up. We also made gingerbread cookies, and saw a fat beaver cross the road.
ReplyDeletejoy- JJJJOOOOOYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!! hehe...hi!!!
ReplyDeleteBristol- I love ipods!!!
ReplyDeleteGrace- There were alot of people when I went iceskating also. It makes skating very difficult.
Me and my entire family and our friends had a great christmas, we watched the cavaliers vs lakers game and the cavaliers won. we were so happy so yeah that was memorable i will never forget because they beat the Lakers by 21 points!!
ReplyDeleteMy old friends and I went to a movie.
ReplyDeleteMy old friends and I went to see a movie.

ReplyDeleteHahahaha. Grace Maiyo. I love you. the end.
ReplyDeleteUm...For me I got to spend a lot of time with my family & friends who were home from college. Oh! and another thing. I stopped being so hungry all the time. (although i think i'm regaining my hunger)...so that's sort of a fail. And Mrs. Smith why were you up at 5:34am????

Grace M- hahaha you would. (actually we did too cuz there were so many people in our house there wasn't room to do anything else).
ReplyDeleteJoy- I was so intimidated by the number of people that i didn't even try to skate knowing my lack of skating skills hehehe. those ice skating lessons in 3rd grade didn't do very much for me :)
Pahahaha I suck at ice skating. It's pretty amusing. Jenny & Megan can tell you...we all went ice skating this summer...Hahaha there are like 500 pictures of me just laying in the middle of the ice rink. It was a TOTAL fail on my part.
ReplyDeletemost memorable thing.um. i got a vintage (looking) record player. it's pretty sick i must add. and yea, now me and my dad pretty much go ham on it. Records are whats up.
ReplyDelete(does that count as memorable?)
(i hope we don't have to be grammatically correct on this.)
reply to Nicole (jan 7, 3:40)
ReplyDeletehahahahahaha nicole! gosh you guys suck at ice skating! like straight up legit. me and jenni were like the only ones actually able to skate.

ReplyDeletemegan - first it was COLD. and i couldnt go outside cause 1) all i had was uggs. no. and 2)it was ridiciously hard getting out the front door for a while...ha
ReplyDeletei spent time with my family and i got an ipod touch
ReplyDeleteto stephen- both of those things rock
ReplyDeleteMegannn! don't hate on my skills of sucking at any form of balance on ice. THAT'S WHY WE'RE NOT PENGUINS!!! GOD, didn't make us to roam on the ice...that's un-human. hence why i stay off the ice. And, yeahh your lango is slippin...Don't start saying story of my life now. :P
ReplyDeleteto joy: that's so great! when i go ice skating, i fall on my butt at least 10 times or more! i spend most of my time on the ice and then its really really cold!! lol
ReplyDeleteto Gracie: thats amazing! fat beaver?? that cracks me up! lol and yea i almost went to that ice skating rink...but never got around to it. Did u know they had sleigh rides too there?? lol
ReplyDeletejoy- the first time i went iceskating i was skating so bad that these two random girls had to help me around the whole time..isnt that embarrassing haha
ReplyDeletenicole- ok first you didnt have to put meghyn on blast like that gosh you couldve at least made it a short blast. you just straight up wrote a syliloqy
ReplyDeletesoliloquy...if you are going to use a big word. Let's try and spell it right please. Hahaha....
ReplyDeletestephen- yess that is absolutley embarassing..hahaha
ReplyDeleteQuestion for 1/11-1/15:
ReplyDeletePlease share with the class your reading for your independent novel study. What book have you chosen, and how do you like it so far?
My independt novel is called A Nothern Light. I haven't started it yet, but I have already read it and it was pretty good.
ReplyDeleteim doing "the day after tomorrow", but it's like not the same thing as the movie... its HUGE. but its like 43 points or something and i didnt wanna read two haha. but so far it's good:)
ReplyDeleteI'm reading "I'm So Sure." It's a book I can enjoy and understand.
ReplyDeleteSo far I'm reading "White" by Ted Dekker. The symbols used to represent a lot of things are very vivid. It gives an interesting perspective on life with or without Jesus. Parts of it are a little weird though-like the entire world is going to die from a virus spread through the air and no one can discover the antivirus.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading "The Hunger Games". So far...I love it. It's non-gender specific but, I am absolutely in love with the main character who reminds me a little bit of myself. The story is coming from her point of view & I feel a strong connection to her character. Things that go through her mind are similar to things that have been in my mind before and it's quite entertaining...Yet, paints a disturbing picture about death and life. A lot of violence and hatred in the book, but then again it only brings the realism of life itself out into the open. Totally magnificent so far. :)
ReplyDeleteJenny- I haven't ever read the book, but I like the movie.
ReplyDeleteGrace- Your book sounds good and a little creepy:-)
i'm doing "the amazing adventures of kavalier and clay"
ReplyDeleteit's 44 points
i like it soo far can't coamplain!
:)
responses to:
ReplyDelete1.) jen- the day after tommorow sounds like such a good book.
2.) grace: Ted Dekker has good books and it sounds like ur loving ur book.
Nicole- your book sounds very interesting. what is the setting?
ReplyDeleteGrace M- I am. My favorite Ted Dekker book is KISS. So far the only one by him that I haven't liked is Showdown which starts off really wierd when some guy gouges out another guys eyes and puts them in his head. Then he eats a wart. Needlesss to say I did not get very far in that book before I put it down.
I have chosen uncle tom's cabin, but i haven't yet started it... uh oh....
ReplyDeleteIhave chosen The Hunchback of Notre Dame. like charlie i haven't started yet. I actually haven't even bought it yet. But I think I will like it.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Eclipse and Twilight...i've read them before but i like them so much that i'm reading them again :) and i think they're awesome books! awesome series! lol
ReplyDeleteJoy- your book sounds cool...i might have to steal it...one day...haha jk :)
Jenifer- absolutely love the movie! haven't read the book...sounds good :)
im reading sherlock holmes the hound of the baskervilles..so far its ok but im just waiting for it to get to the good part, the detective and solving the case part.
ReplyDeleteSooo... considering I'm an idiot and keep forgetting to bring in the books for Mrs. Smith to approve... I've yet to um have read one...
ReplyDeleteBUT! I'm either gonna end up readin:
The Alchemist by: Coelho,
Peter Pan :) by:J.M Barrie,
or Pride and Prejudice by: Jane Austen.
or all 3, considerin they aren't very large books. but i mean it's whatever!
Response to:
ReplyDeleteGrace Y.
YO! Ted Dekker writes amazing books. I read Black, but i mean eh it was aight. I'm gonna eventually read Red then White. But I mean the story line seems pretty good.
Nicole:
hahahahah. I'm lovin the whole smiley face thing at the end of your summary.
Your book is solely about death, violence and hatred... and yet you still manage to put a smiley face at the end of it. ONE OF KIND KID YOU ARE COLE... ONE OF A KIND!
Grace Y.- the setting..okay so it's like semi-futuristic like in America...But, like America is split into districts around the Rockies and Appalachian Mnts. It's freaking awesome!
ReplyDeleteMeghyn- haha I know right? It's not only about death, violenc, hatred, but WARFARE TOO! hahaha. But, suprisingly the girl is the ganster in this one. She's wicked brilliant when it comes to a bow and arrow. Piercing things(aka people) in one shot without being able to see the little hole. Pure craziness.
Joon & Charlie- Umm...slackers?
Im reading the strange case of dr. jekyll and mr. hyde by robert louis stevenson. IM liking it very much so far. i love stevensons extremely extensive vocabulary and i find this story to have very well developed characters even in a very short amount of time. great author and great story
ReplyDeleteIm reading Eragon. Ive read about half of it so far and its good. Ive seen the movie so now im going to read the book.
ReplyDeleteim reading Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. i rly like his books..and i like it so far but ive already read the last few pages...soo i pretty much know whats going to end up happening..im gonna cry! lol i know it. i can't remember if there is a sequel to this book or not, does anybody know?
ReplyDeleteMeghyn: I love Pride and Prejudice!the book is better than the movie to me..well the characters are better. sometimes the book may get a bit boring with how Jane Austen words things but other than that, i love the book!
ReplyDeleteCharlie: Unlce Tom's Cabin is supposed to be really sad...i haven't read it cuz ppl have told me that it will definitely make me cry!
ReplyDeleteMegan- I vote for P&P. What is the Alchemist about?
ReplyDeleteheather - dear john! ha coincidence?? lol but that movie looks sooo cute i wanna see it:)
ReplyDeletejoon - the hunchback of notre dame??....that sounds...interesting. have fun with that one lol
i'd like to start by saying i extremely dislike this thing. Ok heather, i sure hope its not but if it is i can handle it, and jennifer i would like to see that movie as well.
ReplyDeleteGrace- *cough cough* welll.... i dont actually know what the Alchemist is about. But I promise you it has some sorta plot! luckily i'm not reading it.
ReplyDeletei'm readin Peter Pan
and Agatha Cristies, And Then There Were None. which is a pretty well known mystery novel. sooo i'm kinda excited bout readin it. (well maybe not, i'm actually just sayin that to suck of to mrs. smith. or am i?)
Stephen - yoooooooooooo sherlock homes. He's the man. He is soooooooooo intelegent if you know what i mean. I read alot of his stories. and i also want to see the movie
ReplyDeleteJoy - I'm so sure?????? wow wat a title of a book... let me know what the book was about when you are done though. IM INTERESTED!!
Joy: That sounds really interesting tell me if it's good!
ReplyDeleteHeather: Tell me if it's worth reading! I heard the ending was good!
Question for 1/19-1/22:
ReplyDeleteWhat character in the short stories we've read so far do you feel is the most "rounded"? Why?
I think that the character of Jing-mei (or her mother) is the most rounded. She is very realistic because she allows herself to think and behave one way but really has much deeper issues like most people. Her feelings towards her mother and what her mother is trying to do for her can't be summed up in just one sentence.I do not think that she is in any way stereotypical.
ReplyDeleteI think that Feld is probably the most rounded character. He is dynamic and his opinions/decisions change throughout the story. There are a lotof personality traits that are revealed in the story. For example, i think he is a little bit ditsy because he just could not understand why Sobel stayed at the shop.It was blatantly obvious! lol
ReplyDeletei agree with you, grace. Jing-mei was rounded. Although, I have to say that she is a tad stereotypical. She is, of course, the daughter who feels she cannot live up to her parents' expectations, and so, acts out against them. She also definitely has an attitude with her mother. That is common for young girls.
ReplyDeleteI think that Jing-mei was most rounded as well. She was the sterotypical asian daughter who could never live up to her parents expectations so she rebelled again them.
ReplyDeleteGrace i see you, i think we are on the same page with this one.
Heather, maybe your right but i didn't really like that story all together so i'm not a good source
I thought Sheila Mant was pretty rounded. She stayed snobby through the entire story, and true to her character...even though I didn't really like her character.:-)
ReplyDeleteCharlie and Heather- you made a good point, but I think that the way she rebelled was not stereotypical. I mean, when we rebel we say stuff that might hurt or offend our parents, but it usually doesn't cut that deep. I don't know, maybe it does...
ReplyDeleteGrace- I agree with you and Charlie about Jing-mei. She was pretty rounded to.
ReplyDeleteHeather-Feld was an interesting character, but not the brightest...but I'm glad he came around.:-)
I think that Dee was a rounded character because she stayed true to her character of being a snob and kinda spoiled.
ReplyDeleteJoy: I agree with you she did say true to her character.
Anna- I agree with you about Dee and I'm glad that she changed about her attitude toward her heritage. I still think it was great that her mother denied her something for once in her life. For the record this is Grace Y. it's a complicated situation
ReplyDeletei belive that feld is the most rounded character, because hes very dynamic and you really get a sense of who he really is. His attitudes toward people and situations are dynamic throughout the story and he portrays a very real personality.
ReplyDeleteI think that Sheila Mant was a pretty rounded character, because she never changed throughout the story. She was a snob.
ReplyDeleteHows everybody doin?
ReplyDeleteI think Feld is the most rounded. Because he has shown every side of him. love for his daughter, the true face to face the cold world
ReplyDeleteI agree with Heather by saying that Feld is the most rounded character of all. He brings a more realistic side to things, while also seeming a bit...eccentric, in the sense that he didn't even realize Sobel was "in love" with his daughter.
ReplyDeleteand Andres... get the mess outta hear!
FUDGE! I forgot to do it before 10 pm. FAIL...!
ReplyDeleteum, well I'd say Jing-Mei is a very well rounded character...But, that could also be more her just growing up and becoming wiser and changing her feelings and opinions on things. I can't quite decide about that one. But, over-all she's a very unique character and shows many personalities through out the story.
Anthony- I agree with you Feld is a rounded character because of his obliviousness to Sobel being in love with is daughter, him setting up her up with Max, and what he feels when he finds out that Sobel is in love with his daughter.
ReplyDeletei think the chick in the lessons of love story. she was pretty rounded
ReplyDeleteandres- randoommmm..?????
joy- oh yea! and shelia too lol
i think sheila mant was the most rounded...she remained a snooty little priss through the whole story :l
ReplyDeleteJoy- yeah feld was not the brightest tack in the box lol
Jenifer- i agree...that girl was pretty much glued 2 that guy...kinda weird in book...lol
i think that sheila mant was rounded too .. yess she did stay to her true character even though it wasn't the best but still.
ReplyDeletebristol: i agree with you
ReplyDeletegrace heather n charlie: jing mei was pretty rounded too so i agree
that's cool grace...you don't have to agree with me...Really sweet of you. Thanks best friend.
ReplyDeleteJen-Girl was definitely freaky with that boy...haha SUPER OBSESSIVE!
"erbdy gettin crunk!"...."po po shut us down"
ReplyDeleteaight.
jen- yea i guess you're right that chick from that love story was well rounded. but she was uh... a bit obsessive for my taste. so i mean hey if thats what you're feelin then. well actually i have nothin to say.
Alright. Most of us chose Feld.
ReplyDeleteSo I pretty much agree with most of you guys...
Jordan- doesn't rounded mean that caracters change?
You forgot the "h" in "characters" joon. Soo isn't charlie in this class??
ReplyDeletejoon- when characters change they are "dynamic" if a character is round that means he has many sides to his personality and you are able to visualize them through the text
ReplyDeleteANDRES! i'm watchin you...
ReplyDeleteQuestion for 1/25-1/29:
ReplyDeleteWhat is the point of writing stories such as "Where Have You Gone, Charming Billy?" and the poem that follows. How does it help society to recognize the "plight" of the common soldier?
mmmmmmmmmmmmm charlay charlay
ReplyDeleteI think the point of war stories are to inform the readers about war, since alot of people have never gone off to war.
ReplyDeleteThe story and poem makes you realize that being a soldier is not an easy task, and it takes courage and strength to make it through.
I think that the point of writing stories and poems about war is to give people awareness and perspective about how awful it really is. I guess that it can never really be described, only experienced. I think these authors write to a certain extent as a way of coping with their experiences. I guess society often skims over the difficulties that soldiers have to live with which can end up affecting them in all aspects of life (both physically and emotionally)until their deaths.
ReplyDelete~I still totally hate that story.."Where Have you gone Charming Billy?"...Made me angry.
ReplyDeleteAll soldiers go through so much in their either long or short careers, both emotionally and physically. The trauma and total insanity of the situations drive a lot to become to emotionally unbalanced and insecure. The poem and other war books, movies, etc. are written and made so that the rest of society can see a small glimpse of what it is like for the soldiers that are out fighting in the battlefields for our freedom and safety. So, that the rest of at home can understand and have a sort of respect for the men and women representing our country. Personally, I don't think they are given enough credit for the things they endure while away from their homes and families. We can only know what these soldiers are going through by reading about it, and trying to imagine the situations as best as we can, that are captured in the stories. It's never the same as experiencing a war, but it is as close as most of us are willing to get involved in the somber stories and movies about war and being a soldier. It's scary but there is no other way to avoid the fact that these things do exist in the world, that we've created for ourselves.
well it shows how hard being a soldier really is..not only with the risk of dying. Soldiers have to deal with impeccable fear and seeing things that a human being should never have to see. They have to deal with nasty things, and stuff that will break their hearts. How many of us have had to watch our best friend die by a bomb? i sure haven't. thats what they face everyday
ReplyDeleteI agree with Heather. They also have to constantly worry about what is going to happen next. Will they live or will they die? It shows how predictable are days are compared to theirs.
ReplyDeleteNicole- I agree with you and I think that younger generation Americans especially don't truly appreciate the freedom that they have; they haven't had to personally experience anything like war. War makes a person grow up really fast.
ReplyDeleteJoy- I heard a saying once that went like "Courage is one part wit, one part daring, and one part fear. After all, there can be no courage if there is no fear."
i think because they want to show how what it was really like and how awful most of it was.
ReplyDeleteheather- i also agree. they have to be courageous and fearless to deal with all that stuff.
nicole- o believe me girl. i hated that story tooo
firstly... at Anna: I ALWAYS THINK YOUR SCREEN NAME IS "reynoldSPANDEX" yeaa.... just sayin.
ReplyDeleteaight.
well um i think what the authors are tryin to accomplish is for us to truly grasp the reality of war. They want to lure us in, in hopes that we become sympathetic or emotional in some way. To understand that war is exactly as what people make it out to be, worse even.
it shows how the soldiers live their lives everyday and how good we have it not having to go to war.
ReplyDeletei actually kinda liked the story i didnt hate it..it did bug me about the heart attack thing
ReplyDelete-nicole-loving how you take up have the blog space writing life stories about how much you hate this story haha
i think that the whole point of them writing this stories is soo that we can see how war is not simply gunning people down and killing enemies.. it's more than that. it has both physical and mental effects. i liked the story too :)
ReplyDeleteresponses to:
ReplyDeletegrace, nicole heather: i like ur points and haha nicole haha u went off!!
stephen: i agree with u mentioning that nicole took up the whole blog space about how she hates the story
I know...I'm well, passionate about war, and war stories. Another quirky thing about me. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd, yeah sorry I went off. This sort of thing has been on my mind for quite a while. Lol. Random I know.
Jen- Freaking A...That's all I yelled when I finished it. Yes ma'm. I literally slammed the book shut and yelled Freaking A!
Does anyone else find it unnecessary that Stephen/Dr. Luster has more than one account?
I think the point of these war stories are to tell people the real life of one soldier. So that people may know how it feels to be a soldier in a real war. and the real life of it, and the fear the soldiers really have more than just scared of death
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to capitalize the "a" in And after the period joon.
ReplyDeleteI'd say mainly just to bring awareness to people about war.
ReplyDeleteResponse to nicole, wow chill!
Response to heather, good points i agree.
yeah i agree with most of u guys...war storites are 2 inform people about the war...
ReplyDeleteJoy-totally agree with u.
Stephen-yeah the heart attack bothered me 2 :/
Grace- I agree with what you said and I like the quote.
ReplyDeleteNicole- I agree with you also. The solidiers put their life on the line when they could be in America without a care in the world.
Charlie- you chill.
ReplyDeletenicole: you always go off. its pretty ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but I just have this obsession with Blogger. :) It's greatness.
ReplyDeleteDr. Luster: the whole heart attack thing creeped me out...i mean, literally being scared to death? it makes me shiver and gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it!How awful would that be to see people die...and you can't really do anything about it. How horrible must that feel?
ReplyDeleteMeghyn: Yea, i totally agree. And those authors who have actually experienced war and have written about it, maybe the reason they do so is in hopes for more ppl to understand the trauma they went through...for ppl to not take the military lightly. I mean, killing someone (and you know, not bein a psychopath) must really mess ya up...it would definitely mess me up
ReplyDeleteHeather: That was really creepy especially when the other guy was hystarically laughing about how he died. Thats what i hated most about the story.
ReplyDeleteJoon: That's a really good point.
The hysterical laughing was really creepy, but i might have handled the stress the same way. sometimes all you can do is laugh or cry.
ReplyDeletei created a blog
ReplyDeletehttp://lookingfortheperfectsituation.blogspot.com/
check it out, i just post my thoughts and beliefs on current topics that have been debated and it would be much appreciated if people went and posted how they view it and what they believe
peace

Question for 2/8-2/12:
ReplyDeleteWhat is your immediate response to Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum"? Did you feel that it was a good example of the genre of horror?
i thought his building of suspense was very nice and his portrayal of the ingenuity of the evil inquisitors was very representative of the horror genre but the ending i do believe was a copout because 1. he did not die, and 2. his rescue was very unexpected and unexplained. i do believe this is still a good literary work of horror but it is not my favorite poe short tale.
ReplyDeletei mean...it really is not my favorite story that Poe has written. The ending is very abrupt..and i don't know if it could be classified really as horror. It was interesting, and it held a lot of suspense..but I wasn't afraid. soo...thats my opinion lol :)
ReplyDeletemy immediate response to the end was "What!?!" (i reread the last couple of paragraphs) "oh. that's nice" because i was reading the story out of an anthology of Poe's work and there were no explanations about the general, etc. I thought that Poe conveniently decided to end the entire Inquisition at that moment. i think it is a good example of horror because it is suspenseful and keeps you interested without a lot of "action" per se. not to mention the whole thing is horrifying- not that i'm an expert on horror anything...
ReplyDeleteMy first response was that I liked how the character was smart and knew how to get out of tough situations, but I wasn't fond of the whole rat thing. I can handle mice but not rats. I also wasn't fond of the ending, I'm still a little confussed of how a story goes from so much detail to none.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call this a horror story because of the ending. A happily ever after story could have ended that way.
Heather- I agree with you...in the end I wasn't freaked out. I was suprised to turn the page and find that was the end of the story.
ReplyDeleteGrace- I agree with you to. I had to reread the ending.
Yes and no at the same time... he definitely showed us some scary parts of the dungeon and gave us some suspense, but the ending happened just like that... i feel like mrs smith already warned us about that kind of ending in the beginning of the story though..
ReplyDeleteyes it did represent horror but i'd have to say just like everyone else did on here that the ending was not the best.. and random
ReplyDeleteit was like he was out of ideas and decided to end the story. :)
responses to
ReplyDelete1,) Anthony: i agree that the building of suspense was really good
2.)heather: i agree the end was abrupt
Out of all of Poe's stories and poems I've read... "The Pit and The Pendulum" was definitely not the greatest. I figured it would be like all his others; a tad psycotic with some comical relief.
ReplyDeleteI wouldnt classify it as horror.
My immediate response to "The Pit and The Pendulum" was that it was really weird. It was a great representation of the horror genre. It had suspenseful moments. It also had a dark setting.
ReplyDeletemy immediate response would probably go something like this... "ew...what kind of sick minded people do this to others? the contraptions are ingenious and all but not when they are used in killing someone! ugh!" I think the story was a great genre of horror...i mean it was about this dude trying to escape death so i would guess it is horror. :P
ReplyDeleteJoy-yeah! the ending caught me off guard 2! i mean theres all this description and then suddenly its like Poe just got tired of writing...like he wanted the dude to live but couldnt think of another way to fit it in the story.
Heather-yeah! i agree..ending was really abrupt.
Bristol-yeah, it's scary the way ppl can be so creative when it comes to hurting or torturing someone else.......
ReplyDeleteMeghyn- it is interesting that the main character isn't psychotic like in Poe's other stories- he is just being put through an emotionally taxing time
i thought it was good.......but like we said, the ending was kinda lame. and yeaa...its horror. but its kinda different than what we'd necesarrily classify horror as today i guess
ReplyDeletemegan - hahaha you would know ALL THE OTHERS lol...considering you like read the entire collection during our michael myers marathon lol
ReplyDeleteanna banana - (heehee) yea it was weird....
I agree with Heather the ending was abrupt. It was almost like he got tired of writing and decided the rest of the story was good enough to make up for it.
ReplyDeleteAnthony- I agree with you the building of suspense was very well done.
Jenny- :p
Grace Y: yea true true. This main character in this one was a "typical-educated-man", (yes I did put the hyphen in there for nicoles benifit.) who indeed was just put in a bad place. SO definitely not like his other works. TOUCHE MY FRIEND!
ReplyDeleteJenni: I only read that whole freakin book because the Michael Meyer movie we were watchin wasn't scarin me, and I was bored cause you and Becca were hidding underneath a bagillion pillows on the couch.
HYPHENNN!!!!!! OH MA GOSH. SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THAT MEG!!! =]
ReplyDeletehave i mentioned that i freaking love hyphens?
Okay, um my response....the story was gelastic, and I opine that it was some-what a horror story. It had the cloak and dagger, so to speak and was galvanizing for me to read. Although personally, I think it is less sanguinary, compared to the rest of Poe's stories that I have read. Actually, I'm in a bugaboo, I think Poe's story is too amicable to be horror.
wow you all write so much in your responses
ReplyDeleteBristol/Grace-By the way....writing about sick-minded psycho killers is quite engrossing.
ReplyDeleteIt's my serious for my Word of the day. Mwahahahahaha!
My immediate feeling was that Poe simply just got bored. A man as creative as him could have definitely figured out a way to have it all come together if he had wanted to. He just go bored.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with heather the ending was just really quick and lame.
hahaha its funny that you had to re-read many of the paragraphs although its understandable grace.
Charlie- I only had to reread like 2 paragraphs b/c i wanted to know how it turned out so i kind of skimmed to the very end and then got confused... serves me right.
ReplyDeleteHahaha....I do that all the time.
ReplyDeleteAnd then you go back and read what you missed in between. Story of my life.
Mrs. Smith please have mercy on my soul. I tried to do this last night, but my internet was not working for some reason. Then, i tried to do it tonight, and i wrote the comment...everything..then the computer froze up and wouldn't post. So, i missed the deadline. My dad just fixed it. I guess i understand if you still don't give me a good grade, though. Bristol: yea, the psycho guy is an interesting element in the story and also entertaining. I found it quite disturbing, though. Grace: I do that a lot too! Most of the time it's just to see if the ending is happy or not lol
ReplyDeleteSorry I am late Mrs. Smith.
ReplyDeleteI feel like it was a horror story because there was suspense and it was scary situations. The ending however was not very good at all. It made me mad how he smartly figured out how to get out of every other situation but he could not get out of the last one, he had to be rescued randomly.
Question for 2/16-2/19:
ReplyDeleteWhat was your favorite part of A Separate Peace? Why? (the end is NOT an answer)
My favorite part of A Seperate Peace was when Finny decided that Devon was going to have a winter festival. I think it would be cool to spur of the moment decide that you were going to have a little ski jump and contest. I also like that Gene had to make snow figurines, even though he had no clue how to. Sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteha well personally, i liked when gene "jostled the tree" to make finny fall. i didnt like him all too well and thought he maybe even deserved it a bit...? but yea joy, the skii jump thingy was cooool too. darn i totally wish i knew how to skii...hmmmm..
ReplyDeletemy favorite part was when he fell out the tree. not because he fell and basically ended his life with sports but because it was like the main part of the whole book and also when he fell on the stairs
ReplyDeletemy favorite part of the story is the winter festival, because it sounded like something fun to do when you had nothing else to do. It was also a good way to distract Gene from the guilt of hurting Finny.
ReplyDeletemy favorite part? hmm.....it probably be the parts when gene and finny were the best buddies they were meant 2 be...the whole book kinda annoyed me. Gene was always thinking of Finny the wrong way. Phineas even told gene at the beach that genne was his best friend! but the whole book i had the feeling that gene hated phineas. They were supposed 2 be the "best friends" everyone looked up to...but they ended up being the "best enemies"
ReplyDeleteumm...i'd probably say the part when Phineas talked his way out of his pink shirt and tie as a belt. that takes real talent. lol
ReplyDeleteI don't like a Separate Peace...Haha,just thought I'd add that. Yes, I'm that kid. My favorite part is every time Finny talks himself out of trouble, with all the teachers and such. I'm not exactly sure why I like that so much. But, it's really funny to me.
ReplyDeletewow jennifer i love the violent aggressive feeling...(verbal irony) lol :) drrr (i in perry's voice) haha love english class
ReplyDeleteyea anna i liked that part too. it was like they could just be teenage boys rather than think about the war. It was a "separate peace." and stephen, i agree as well. those two parts like presented the main conflict of the entire book. without them, well, the book would have been most likely boring.
ReplyDeleteWhat happens in English....>>>stays in English.
ReplyDelete:) haha. ohhhh the laughs we get in that class.
My favorite part is when they had the winter festival. It seemed like it would be really fun.
ReplyDeleteWAIT A SECOND I"M SO MAD CUZ I DEFINITELY WAS THE FIRST ONE TO COMMENT AND IT DIDN'T SHOW UP SO IT'S LATE AND I HAVE TO ANSWER THE QUESTION AGAIN!!!!! so my answer to the question was that i thought that the part when Finny and Gene go to the beach was my favorite part because it shows them being good friends having a good time before guilt or the war changes them.
ReplyDeleteHeather and Nicole- yeah that was impressive. I need to work on my persuasive skills.
Stephen and Jenny- somehow i feel guilty for finding the exciting moments the sad ones. all the drama happens there.
This is Grace Y by the way.
Heather- I agree with you. I thought it was pretty cool that Finny talked his way out of major trouble.
ReplyDeleteJenny- I also liked the tree josteling part, but I think it was dumb that Gene secound guessed himself so many times. I just wanted him to pick wheter he was being dumb or mean. Anyway...
I agree with Jenni :)
ReplyDeletei found it kinda interesting how Gene jousled the tree subconsciencely--more or less--
It sorta showed how unsure Gene was of his feelings towards Finny.
Grace Y.- That is a good way of looking at it I agree with you.
ReplyDeleteHeather- I agree with you that does take a lot of talent!
stephen- nice perry impersonation :)
ReplyDeleteGrace y- yeah i liked the part with the beach 2 :)
Dang... i'm really late..... i completely forgot about this thing because i haven't been to the english class like at all....
ReplyDeleteWell..... i'm going to tell you my opinion anyways... my favorite part was when Finny broke the school record for the fast swimming but he didn't want anyone to know about it.
Nicole- yup yup most definitely... he is sooooo good at it for some reason.
Stephen- how can you like such a tragedy!! shame on you!!!! i felt really bad for him
Question for 2/22-2/26:
ReplyDeleteAre you looking forward to the poetry unit? Why or why not?
Yeesh! Okay, so I might be a total nerd or whatever but, I love poetry!!! I think that when an author writes a story, it tells details in ways that make it easy for you to relate to the character and become part of the story...(at least that's what most are trying to accomplish...depends on the writer though)
ReplyDeleteBut, in poetry it's a huge mystery and all about interpretation of what point the author is trying to get across to his audience. For every person that reads it they can come out with a completely different meaning and idea about the poem. That is so beautiful to me; almost magical. In poetry you absorb the words and flow and the words become your own thoughts and emotions.
:)
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to the poetry unit because I enjoy seeing how authors can get the same point across or tell the same story, but with specific limitations (unless of course it is a free verse poem). i personally enjoy the poems that tell a story the best because i feel like the author is trying to communicate something specific and because i enjoy stories.
ReplyDeleteYes, because I like that they are usually not terribly long but they get the point(s) across and everyone has a different interpritation to the meaning. Which is cool! Also writing poems is fun because you get to express yourself in a different kind of way.
ReplyDeleteNicole- I tot-ally agree with you! If liking poetry makes you a nerd then...Yeah Nerds!
ReplyDeleteGrace- I like poems witha story too, especially because the authors usually use so much detail that you feel like you're actually there with them.
i dont have a definite position in this arguement. The fact that the words in the poetry means in different ways amaze me when i actually get it.... Buttttttt most of the time i really dont get the point the author is trying to prove across until the teacher explains it stanza by stanza..... sooooooooo it all depends on Mrs.Smith :)
ReplyDeleteYEA I AM!
ReplyDeleteBecause poetry is freakin awesome. And it's used in our lives everyday. (i.e. by music, or through the Bible. ect.)
Poetry makes you think - hard for the first time in your young adolescent life - so that you can understand the point the author is trying to get across.
Joon- wow. you're putting a lot of pressure on Mrs.Smith; what about the authors of the poems???
ReplyDeleteMeghyn- poetry does make you think hard because there different levels of interpretation; i usually have difficulty seeing beyond the basic, face-value level
Yes and no. I like to read poetry but I really don't like to write it.
ReplyDeleteah poetry is good...it depends on my mood lol...
ReplyDeleteAnna- im the exact opposite! i love 2 write poems but really could do without reading them...but if i didnt read poems i guess i wouldnt know how to write one so....lol
Grace- yeah! i like the story telling poems 2! :D
Yeah I'm definitely looking forward to it but writing it is a different story...
ReplyDeletemmm sorta and sorta not. poetry is really complicated so sometimes i'm just like "say what you mean!" to the author. i do like interpreting things for my own self. but...a lot of times i just don't know where the author is going with the whole thing.
ReplyDeleteAnna: i don't like writing it either. it's really hard. i don't like the structure. i like the freedom of how i write something and what i write.
ReplyDeleteGrace: i think authors that can write poetry well---well, they're extremely talented.
Haha Heather, it took me a good 5 minutes to read that last post...with all them "well's" in there. :)
ReplyDeleteJust thought I'd let you know.
welll...........i do enjoy some poetry. guess i havent really found an author i really like yet. I just wish they would write in plain english. though it does make the poem more vivid, they are always hard to understand for me :P
ReplyDeleteheather - EXACTLY!!!!
anna - oh that too! writing poetry. big no-no for jennifer
poetry has never been my favorite portion of literature. I do, however enjoy interpreting the implied messages within the text, almost hidden in plain sight.
ReplyDeleteheather- thats the beauty of poetry, the author leaves it up to you to determine what he means by the poem, especially in poems by robert frost. poetry spans the gap of different personalities in people because to each individual the poem may mean something different, due to a past experience or lack of it.
yes i am looking forward to the poetry unit because i think poems are so much fun to read and even write :)
ReplyDeleteanthony-i agree
ReplyDeleteheather- i agree with you!!
:)
GRACE! i'm so glad you responded at me. cause... i'm pretty sure no one has done that to me yet. so you just made my life. and because of that i am TRULY grateful :)
ReplyDeleteQuestion for 3/22-3/26:
ReplyDeleteWhat do you believe is the biggest challenge facing America right now?
The biggest challenge that America is facing right now would probably be getting out of national debt. America owes China a lot of money so what's gonna happen when China decides to cash their huge IOU? America continues to spend more and more money that the people don't have. Most families live in debt as well because of their own personal choices. America is also facing HUGE moral struggles (listen to our class for a day), but I won't get into that.
ReplyDeletewell i dont pay much attention 2 that sort of stuff but ill try 2 give my best answer...i think the biggest challenge we r facing right now might be what grace said....debt is never good. especially 4 a whole country. :/
ReplyDeleteI agree with Grace when she says that Americas biggest problem is getting out of national debt.
ReplyDeletejust as the others i think that the debt that America is in is the major problem facing America.
ReplyDeletethe health care issue is also a major issue but hopefull it will be resolved.
Not trying to be a copy-cat but it seems to be the obvious problem right now, debt and the economy problems. It's affecting everyone in some sort of way.
ReplyDeleteGrace- yeah if China does decides to cash in there will be some major problems to face.
ReplyDeleteGrace M.-The health care policy is getting alot of people fired up. Most people seem to have alot to say about it.
Oh lord. Don't make me go off Mrs. Smith. I honestly might start a dangerous riot. I will try and keep it general in saying that there is a lot on America's plate right now. [RANDOM SIDE NOTE: BY AMERICA WE MEAN ALL OF AMERICA. NOT THE REPUBLICANS. AND NOT THE DEMOCRATS, JUST BECAUSE WE HAVE A DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT, THE REPUBLICANS ARE STILL CHANGING AMERICA TOO.]Not sure if that made sense....I felt it necessary though. I think that the economy itself & all the problems that have come from that main issue. War, Taxes, Health Care, abortion, our allies in other countries and enemies trying to destroy us. Most of which all come from the same problem of money and poverty, etc. The disrespect that people in our country love to show to our President and the other government officials is disheartening. We don't have to believe everything they say or like them; but because they represent our country as a whole body, we should give them proper respect,as we should all authority over us. [JUST ANOTHER RANDOM SIDE NOTE...]
ReplyDeletefinancially, the largest problem facing america is not only the debt that we are in, but also the fact that we have almost no gold or actual worth backing up our paper money. the dollar is the least valuable form of currency in the world today. How can america get out of its debt if the way we distribute money is faulty and near-to worthless?
ReplyDeleteNicole- AMEN to that!!!
ReplyDeleteAnthony- ouch, but how do we back the paper money with things we don't have so that paper money has some value again???
I mean I'm not an American citizen so I don't really have a strong or outstanding opinion. But from the looks and what I've been hearing, I think America needs to work as a whole to get out of this whole national debt thing quick. Or else it just sounds like a downfall for the whole country. And also I don't think the government is making exactly the best choice.
ReplyDeleteJoy- I agree with the whole copy cat thing haha.. but i do really think this national debt thing is a pretty darn serious matter for America right now.
Grace- Yeah China is growing to be the strongest nation really fast. They have the land with the people for the land to be keep growing.
well i forgot about this but im still gonna respond! probably one of the biggestu things is ummm..hello? there's sex everywhere! billboards, magazines, tv, commercials, ppl walkin around, jokes, i mean its taken over our lives as Americans. I mean,i just don't think God intended it to be this way. No wonder there are so many rapes and sexual assaults and pornography addictions and affairs...
ReplyDeletei agree with you on tht one joon and printing more money is not a way to get out of debt...im just saying. i agree with you, nicole, on some level. Americans nowadays..well, i mean we don't act unified really. A lot of us americans are selfish and only want whats good for us and not for the whole country. I ALMOST wish i could see what it was like in George Washington's time...when our soon-to-be citizens fought for this country. When ppl unify their efforts and passions for one common goal or purpose...stuff happens. its very efficient.
ReplyDeleteHeather- I would agree. The nation needs a heart change before it can even begin to work out its other problems.
ReplyDeleteNational debt.
ReplyDeleteand becoming a united country. ha. it's in the country's name, and yet we really aren't very united at all.
Heather- That's a really good point
ReplyDeleteMegan- your right it's really sad
Question for 3/29-4/1:
ReplyDeleteWhat is your initial impression of Caesar? At this point, do you feel we are getting a view of Caesar as he really is or Caesar through everyone else's eyes? Explain.
My initial impression of Caesar was "This guy thinks way too highly of himself. He thinks he is better than the people he rules just because of who he is." There hasn't been much talk of Caesar alone. It's more of the people talking about him. The conspirators are the ones that are making him out as the evil bad guy. That probably influenced my first impression of Caesar also...lol :)
ReplyDeleteMy initial impression of Caesar is that he must not be a very good ruler because everyone seems to want to kill him. People do not usually want to kill someone seriously...usually. These people are implying that they would run the risk of they themselves being killed to kill Caesar.
ReplyDeleteI feel we are getting a view of Caesar through everyone else's eyes because we have yet to hear Caesar talk about himself, we have only heard from his few friends and many enemies.
My initial impression of Caesar is that he is a typical political figure (slightly arrogant and loving praise)who perhaps puts a little too much trust in his friendships. I personally feel that once a person becomes a political icon, they no longer have true friends :( I feel like I only know what the others think of Caesar. I have not really had the opportunity to judge his character or actions for myself because he has so few lines and the other characters are quick to voice their opinions.
ReplyDeleteBristol- I feel like the audience/ readers do not have the opportunity to judge Caesar before the characters tell you how you should feel about him (if you know what i mean).
