Tell us the most memorable thing that happened to you over Christmas break.
ReplyDeleteMy most memorable memory, being the computer geek that I am, was getting an Alienware laptop for Christmas. I'm posting on it right now! I've also gotten into the Mario and Luigi RPG series, as you may tell from my icon. Overall it was a very very awesome Christmas. Glad to be back too, even though we've lost some members. Yet we gained back some people, so that's nice.
ReplyDeleteThe most memorable thing that happened to me during Christmas break was getting to spend time with some family friends and their two kids who are the cutest you'll ever see. Their 6 month old never cried and was always smiling. We made quite a trip to Bob Evans and it was so funny to see my youngest brother have to be a big brother.
ReplyDeleteAwesome thing that happened 2 me was i got an ipod touch! that thing is awesome! and i finally got a facebook :)
ReplyDeleteSame thing SNowboiarding seeing all my family i havent seen for awhile and Grace that sounds really cool and Bristol thats really cool about the ipod too that must have been something
ReplyDeleteWell, I suppose ANOTHER memorable thing was watching a pirated movie for the first time. My cousin is king of pirated movies that still have theater quality. He amazes me. Anyway, we watched 9. Did anyone else see it? I liked it for artistic reasons, but the storyline was lacking a bit.
ReplyDeleteAlex; sweeeet!!! Alienware!!!! Bet your WoW software is loving it.
Way to go on the iPod, Bristol!
Um...I already posted on our grade.
ReplyDeleteThis completely stinks that I'm not in the class. My senior year is ruined.
ReplyDeleteAnyways...another memorable moment for me was finally picking my musical audition pieces for ECU. I picked "My Philosophy" from You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown and "Missing You (My Bill)" from The Civil War: An American Musical
Now I just have to pick a monologue from "Our Town" and I will be ready for Feb. 27th!!
Congrats on the itouch, Bristol! It seems that everyone got an itouch or a snuggie. :)
Sally Ruth Tenaglia you should not watch pirated films. That's a very bad thing. It's illegal and you could go to jail.
Audrianna- I hope your audition goes well. Good luck! (btw I agree about everyone getting an itouch or snuggie. I'm pretty sure snuggies are planning to take over the world.) :)
ReplyDeleteJoejoehoss- Who are you? and it's cool that you got to go snowboarding.
Oh, Audrianna you'll do fine on your audition I'm sure!!!
ReplyDeletespending time with family
ReplyDeleteHooray for you Audrianna! it's so awesome how you know what ya wanna do i'm still debating exactly what I wanna do with my life myself... whether it's computer programming or design or maybe something with video games, i know its gonna be big into technology. Also, when exactly is you audition, just wonderin.
ReplyDeleteAnd Sally, it sure is lovin the RAM and the bits and bytes that are makin it run oh-so-smooth.
And I believe joejoe is actually Joe Mead, the one and only, finally seeing fit to come and join. Nice to see ya!
Spending time with family thats pretty kickin allison i did the same thing it was nice very relaxing. Audrianna good luck on your audtion as well and joejoehoss is a verb.
ReplyDeleteQuestion for 1/11-1/15:
ReplyDeleteWhat is your favorite movie? List three qualities that give it credence as a work of art.
I would have to say that my favorite movie is Pride and Prejudice (the BBC A&E version). It has witty dialogue, excellent costumes, and some of the locations it is filmed at are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite movie is Snoopy Come Home. It's just been one of my best memories as a little kid and lookingback on it now I can apreciate even more. It brings out a lot of emotions for a children's film, has some catchy tunes, and I mean come on who doesn't like Peanuts?
ReplyDeleteThe Boondock Saints. It has the use of props, religon, and brotherly love which uses those three things to bring that together which is great. Grace I agree pride and prejudice is a fantastic movie. And Snoopy Come home is a classic you have to love the classics.
ReplyDeletemy favorite movie is Sweet Home Alabama. i like it because of were it is located in the south, i love reese witherspoon, and i think its a great story.
ReplyDeleteGrace i have never seen it but i would like too, and joe i think that is a good movie.
ReplyDeleteAllison- if you get the chance, you should watch it. the only down side is the fact that it is 6 hours long so you can't watch it in one sitting.
ReplyDeleteAlex- I have never seen Snoopy Comes Home before, but I am very familiar with a Charlie Brown Christmas. I love the little Christmas tree.
Oh gosh, favorite movie?!?! Really, Mrs. Smith?!? Man...
ReplyDeleteOk, ONE animated movie that I adore, Tekkonkinkreet, is excellent. There are many controversial things in it, but I think that's one thing that makes the film great. The most interesting thing that is represented is the decent into insanity. Not many [animated] films touch on this because of its difficult nature. Everyone's mind is different. The art direction is incredible because of how real the characters become [compared to typical anime]. And the voice acting beats out many of the other movies I've seen.
Alex, Gasp! I love Snoopy Come Home!! Wow that brings back some memories.
Allison, Sweet Home Alabama is great! I think Josh Lucas is a phenomonal actor.
One of my favorites of all time is the animated movie "The Thief and The Cobbler." It's kind of like Aladdin, but with a very different storyline. The art is very different than any other animated movie I've seen and the characters are so diversely drawn. There seems to be a specific color that is key to each character. It also has many famous voices in it such as Matthew Broderick and Vincent Price. It's so funny. There's this one character who doesn't speak, but you hear his thoughts and they are just hilarious. I'll bring it sometime so everyone can see it...even though I'm not in the class....fail...
ReplyDeleteSally that movie was so sad. It left me feeling completely drained.
Joe: I can see that being your favorite. I'm surprised it's not that one with Denzel Washingon and that little girl or the one about Adam Sandler and he loses his family in 9/11.
Audrianna, I remember seeing advertisements for that movie all the time on schoolhouse rock videos i used to own, i remember it being claymation or something but don't remember much of it. P.S. You are very sorely missed.
ReplyDeleteGrace...wow! 6 hours?! Are you sure it's not like a miniseries or something edited into a movie? Seems like it would be pretty entertaining though, with the wit and all.
Sally I heard a bit about that movie but never saw it. What are some things the animator uses to simulate "insanity"? I wonder what the Japanese perceive as mental illness, since many animes already seem to be a bit...touched.
My favorite movie is Flicka...hope u all have heard of it...its a great movie to me cuz it has horses in it...which r my favorite animals :)...it has a really good storyline...and overall it really gives u something to think about...what would u do if someone or something that you fought with everything you have got hurt? What would happen to you?
ReplyDeleteSo yeah that's my favorite movie! :)
Okay, so one of my favorite movies is Transformers. Love it love it love it. It not only has amazing special effects, with brilliant colors. But, also the story line itself shows that you can use your power to good or evil, also it shows sacrifice of yourself for good. Also, if you listen carefully to all the lines or watch it like a million and one times...Like me. There is incredible lines from the movie. (Most of which can be used for religious purposes. Talking about good beating out evil.)I enjoy quoting it on a regular basis. Hahaha :)
ReplyDeleteAllison- Sweet Home Alabama...total classic girl movie. Haha..I like it a lot.
Question for 1/19-1/22:
ReplyDeleteAfter our few discussions regarding movies, have you changed any of the ways you view the movies you've watched?
MRS SMITH I finally found this website thanks for telling me today :) so im gonna answer all three of the posts so i can at least get some sort of grade lol. so for the week of Jan. 4th um i have to say my most memorable part of christmas break would have to be seeing my friends that went off to college again and spending lots of time with my family and friends!
ReplyDeleteAudrianna i defininetly agree with you on the whole itouches and snuggies are takin over the world even though i dont have either ill make sure that they dont, so i wont get one :) haha
and alex thats sooo cool that you got a laptop!!!
For the week of Jan. 11th I would have to say that this is a really hard question to answer because i like a lot of movies. So I guess that I'll have to pick Sweet Home Alabama like Allison becuase honestly it pretty much is my favorite movie. It show you that you should never be ashamed of where you come from and that you dont have to hide it. Also it's a cute love story with two great actors that star in it.
grace are you serious??? there's a movie that is 6 hours long??? that's just crazy lol but yea i have to admit i do wanna see it now because i heard it was really good from a lot of people and also since it's six hours long thats just one movie that you should watch because it's just so rare when those movies come along lol.
Bristol, I love that movie, horses are also my favorite animals and i love a lot of horse movies lol
Now onto this week I'm gonna say that i do try to analyze the movies i watch a little more because those notes that we wrote down for our test always pop up when i watch a movie and i try to figure it out after a movie. lol
whewwww that was the longest comment i've ever made in the history of this blog yay slash not because I was late on 2 of these :( but hey at least i got them done lol
Hmmm... I guess that it has changed the way I watch movies a little, but I already like to watch a few favorites and analyze the mess out of them. Ususally I stick to stuff that is more on the surface (like that was a poor angle for the camera or I like that makeup, etc.), and less character analysis.
ReplyDeleteOhhh...Yeah. I'm like the opposite of Grace though. I enjoy analyzing the characters and the plot. Finding keys in the movie and forshadowing what's to happen. I do that a lot when watching a movie. Not so much noticing the obvious things...I have to have those pointed out to me. Hahaha. I'm a bit oblivious when it comes to simple details. I like complex.
ReplyDeleteHahaha Caitlyn. You're the best. That's all I have to say.
Yeah I told you about it in paranormal activity... thanks for ruining that movie for me mrs smith haha
ReplyDeleteThe idea that a movie turns reality into fiction is something that has stuck with me. Whether we refer to Paranormal Activity or something else, when it is portrayed in Hollywood as a fictional piece that could have some credit, those true undertones are lost.
ReplyDeleteGrace, I often find myself doing that too. I stray from the story and characters and watch the aesthetic qualities.
And, Joe, it's OK. You still have Man on Fire.
Sally- yeah, that is a very good point. there's a lot of stuff in movies that is over embellished or completely not true so when there is actual truth in a movie, people don't take it seriously. Sometimes you have the other extreme and gullible people take EVERYTHING seriously.
ReplyDeleteNicole W- I am probably the worst person at recognizing forshadowing and making correct predictions.
I've been seeing movies through the eyes of a comedian for some time now actually. Like if I can see a plot twist coming from a mile away I'll make some quip about it. Or if there's an as you might calll obligatory scene. If I can't joke about it, it's a good movie, at least to me. But this has turned me into a bit of a cynic and I'd rather be blissfully unaware and not waste my $9...
ReplyDeleteI have changed the way I view movies a little bit. I look for more of the incidents that didn't make sense in the end but then end up being cleared up through the movie. What was that called again, it started with a j. Other than that though I would say I still view movies the same way I did before.
ReplyDeleteI agree with cole i like to look at the plot and see if i cannot figure out what is going on i also agree with brittany i look for more incidents to occur now as i said with paranormal activity
ReplyDeletenope...havent really changed the way i watch movies...i dont really watch movies that frequently...most recent 1 i watched was the Notebook... =..( such a sad sweet movie! lol
ReplyDeletehahha caitlyn they kind of pop up in my head too but I just think to myself enjoy the movie don't analyze it. I agree with Nicole too, that I like to try to figure out how the movie is going to end.
ReplyDeleteThe notebook. Is epic bristol. :) Nice pick. Haha
ReplyDeleteSally: Yeah, I agree that we can't always see what's real and what's fake in movies. People either dismiss it all or take it all in.And directors and writers usually try to interject their worldview when making a movie so that's another thing to be discerning of.
ReplyDeleteBrittany, it's juxtaposition. And I like to see things all turn out to be interconnected the whole time. Seems more epic that way, like a huge revelation or something...
Dominique- haha its awesome! lol :)
ReplyDeletepost for last week: some of my most memorable moments were probably just hanging out with friends and staying up till all hours of the night for no reason (with friends, lol). I also enjoyed just being able to kick back with my family.
ReplyDeleteSally- I agree wth audrianna on the pirated film yhing, you should be ashamed of yourself, lol
Audrianna- I;m glad you figured out what you are doing for your audition. I'm sure you'll do great!
I think that since we've started talking about movies it has me considering the purpose of they're format and how they're put together. It makes me pay more attention to certain elements of film.
ReplyDeletejoe- dont worry about paranormal activity, it wasnt at all scary. i saw two different versions and was dissappointed.
I agree with everyone who said the notebook was awesome. I <3 that movie
Question for 1/25-1/29:
ReplyDeleteWho is your favorite actor? Why?
Denzel Washington and Man On Fire and Eli. That's why.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite actor? can i say that i don't know? uh...i guess that Nicholas Cage is pretty good b/c he gives all of his characters intensity without being over dramatic.
ReplyDeleteUmmm...I honestly can't answer this week's question. I just don't pay much attention to the actual people in movies and plays and all that. I just like to analyze the charcters themselves. I guess I'm just not into what's hip like the kids. With their hippin' and a hoppin' and a bipin' and a boppin' so they don't know what the jaaaazzz is all about, you see? So yeah...can't answer this week.
ReplyDeleteYou asked for it- my favorite actor would most definately have to be JOHNNY freaking DEPP because he is a truly awesome actor. Hes been in numerous films that exibit his wild personality and versatility. Johnny brings so much character into all of his roles and he is one of a kind.
ReplyDeleteSome other actors I really like are Brendan Fraiser, Keira Knightley, George Clooney, Ciaran Hinds, Catherine Zeta Jones, and Antonio Banderas
Grace-I absolutely love nicholas cage
Joe- you would pick Denzel
Grace I agree with you Nicholas Cage is a good actor especially in National Tresure anf The Family Man. Johnny Depp is not the greatest actor in the world in my opinion Nicole, but I def think he is good. I liked him in the New Willy Wonka and Pirates of the Carrabiean.
ReplyDeletei would have to say that one of my favorite actors(but i have a lot more) is Johnny Depp. ive seen a lot of movies that hes been in and i just think he can play a lot of different roles really well! so i guess that means that i most definitely agree with nicole and joe i also LOVE denzel washington hes my second favrite no lie...i think haha
ReplyDeleteHands down, Johnny Depp is one of the greatest actors of our era. He portrays such a diverse range of characters, from Edward Scissorhands to J. M. Barry to Mr. Willy Wonka. Then, of course, there's the crazy character he plays in Secret Window. Two other actors that I would put on Depp's level are Christian Bale and Heath Ledger (who should never have died). Both men display the same traits of diversity in their acting ability. Helena Bonham Carter is incredible as well. And Maggie Gyllenhaal.
ReplyDeleteGrace, I'm not a fan of Nicolas Cage, but I'm glad that you like him.
And Joe, I can only stand so much of Denzel. But I really like how he portrays Don Pedro in Much Ado About Nothing.
That is really hard for me because I love movies. In other words I end up liking lots of different actors and actresses. My top ones would have to be Christian Bale, Patrick Dempsey, and Matthew Gray Gubler. I really liked Christian Bale in Batman and the Prestige. Patrick Dempsey I've just seen in a bunch of different movies and I always think he does amazing. Matthew Gray Gubler, is a more of a new actor in the acting world lol. My favorite show is Criminal Minds and he plays Dr. Spencer Reid, who I absolutely love. There are a few other actors I really like too though.
ReplyDeleteLike I also agree with Joe, Denzel Washington is another one of my favorites.
I also agree with Grace, Nicholas Cage is another really good actor. Nicole and Caitlyn said Johnny Depp, who I do like, but the only movie I really liked him in was the Pirates of the Caribbean.
Shia LaBeouf, Well I love most of the movies he's in...which most of them are action and violent. But, nevertheless he's great and something about his character just attracts me.
ReplyDeleteSally- Heath Ledger is my hero. I am terribly obsessed with his acting career.
Joe- Denzel Washington,I'm most definitely a fan of him too! He's one of those classy guys who are naturally brilliant and I'll watch any movie that he's in, because he's bound to make it ridiculously good.
ReplyDeleteSally- Which version of Much Ado About Nothing is Denzel Washington in?
ReplyDeleteNicole W.- of course they're violent :)
i dont really have a favorite actor... :/ i hope i dont get points taken off cuz i dont have 1 :(
ReplyDelete:D haha yay!
ReplyDeleteI think it's odd how Depp is such a famous actor. Do people like him because they like Tim Burton? Or do they honestly think he's a good actor? Not that I'm ragging on anyone who does like him but I just wonder about it.
ReplyDeleteAnd Bristol don't wory, I'm right there with ya!
I have made my own blog
ReplyDeletehttp://lookingfortheperfectsituation.blogspot.com/
if you are interested on posting your views on different topics it would be well appreciated.
The current topic now is: Can a Christian also be a homosexual.
go and check it out, everyone's view would be appreciated
ps. this is tommy
ReplyDeleteQuestion for 2/8-2/12:
ReplyDeleteIn a few weeks we will be starting our playwriting in earnest. Do you feel more prepared after discussing the structure and outline of theater and film in class?
Maybe, but we haven't really talked about the outline for a kids' story which is the focus of our skits. i do like learning about the movie outlines. it's interesting, but the only way to really get better at writing is to keep on doing it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree with Grace that we haven't really done any movie genres that correspond to children's entertainment specificly. It's been a good experiene analyzing these specific plots, but I don't know whether or not we'll be able to use it.
ReplyDeleteYes I do. Except I agree with stupid wow guy and grace we have not really discussed anything like that in childrens genres. But overall grace and him hit it on the head. We need to dicuss a more childrens base.
ReplyDeleteyeah grace said exactly what i was going to say lol the outlines were really helpful in watching movies but not with our skits :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I do feel more adequately prepared. I just wish our subject matter wasn't so tricky. Writing the play is already bad enough.
ReplyDeleteAlex and Grace: I can see where you are coming from, but at the same time, a plot line is a plot line, no matter how...childish or not? Nearly everything we've talked about can apply to our playwriting. Sure the genre's aren't the same, but basic elements of writing and story remain the same no matter what you're composing.
Ah yes Sally you do have point there. I guess that a genre has nothing to do with the amount of content it has in it. And anyway, discussing a romantic genre (romantic being knights and dragons and all that other stuff pertaining to flights of fantasy...like Mario)
ReplyDeletecould be considered "kid friendly". It also sets up a good framework to go by at least.
Yeah, I suppose I do...except that I'm going to have to agree with most of you. That dumbing it down to a children's level is going to be more complicated. Especially, because we're at the age and generation where we all use SO much irony and unspoken "words" between people, that kids won't be able to understand any of it. It's gonna be a tough project to complete.
ReplyDeleteNicole- I definitely agree with you. Writing a skit for children is going to be really hard because you want to keep it simple and straightforward but at the same time they're not stupid and you don't want to dumb it down too much. Plus I really don't remember what my sense of humor was like in elementary school, and I have to watch EVERYTHING that is said and done in the skit to make sure it won't negatively influence them or whatever. It could be easy to write any old children's skit, but writing an outstanding one will be very difficult indeed.
ReplyDeleteSally- oh. see I thought that each genre has a different plotline specific to that genre. But now that you mention it, it makes sense that all comedies (vs. tragedies) will have essentially the same plot line. thanks for that insight.
I think it might have helped a little but more with movies. Cause i definitely agree with Grace and Nicole, that we didn't cover children based outlines and because we are so used to using sarcasm in our everyday talk
ReplyDeleteI feel like I now know more to consider when writing a play, but like everyone else said- dealing with childrens plays is going to be somewhat of a challenge
ReplyDeletegrace, brit, and nicole- I agree its going to be hard not using sarcasm and whatnot like we're used to
uestion for 2/16-2/19:
ReplyDeleteWhat's your favorite improv game and why?
my favorite improv game is the one where one person reads lines from a book and the other has to respond. i like seeing how often the actor's interpretation matches what the author wrote. it also keeps the conversation moving forward.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite improv game is the one where 2 people stare at each other and talk at the same time. I like this game cuz it takes alot of concentration 2 be able 2 focus on what the people are saying. And u have 2 stare at each other without blinking. yep. lots of focus :)
ReplyDeleteOh geez please don't count off for the Wednesday thing this week!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, my favorite game is probably the one where one person is like a totem and you tap them on the shoulder for a random bit of dialogue. It's so cool to see how far off the story can be taken,or even funnier, how much the randomness can fit into the original. Also, I like its close cousin, the game where people write lines on slips of paper and hand them to the actors.
Grace, I love that one too. Mostly for the same reason I love the totem game, but it also gives the less spontaneous of us a chance to get involved in something a bit more structured.
ReplyDeleteAnd Bristol, I never knew how profusely a woman could talk until we played this game, especially Sara. But that's her own thing I guess and I like bubblyness so long as it's called for.
to finally answer last weeks question is i think that i felt more prepared to write a play and think about all of the perspectives you have to think about when wirting a play and learning a lot about that helped me a lot
ReplyDeletenicole i agree with you about how its going to be more complicated to make the skit on a keds thought level
Britt i was thinking the same thing, that we havent really gone over the whole writing much of a kids play that much ...but we have gone over a little lol
now onto this week haha i would have to say my favorite game is the direstor game, because it's challenging most of the time, when you switch up the different kind of genres and sometimes even the characters. but i love it!!!!
alex i loveee that game thats really fun...and yeah our conversations and plots for the scenes we have go way far out there hahaha
bristol that game is sooooo so difficult and fustrating, especially if you have A.D.D. and you cant pay attention to the things you are trying to say lol so i can only talk for like a second before i get distracted from the other person talking at my face. oh and our class gets very loud when we do that game!
Ohhhhhh! The alphabet one; where you have to start each line off with the next letter of the alphabet. Mostly because we are all completely awful at it...It's humorous.
ReplyDeleteI like the one where you read from a script and the other person has to respond. one because it will completely catch a person off guard and two no matter what you still have to stay in charcter with what the script is. So it makes you think more. So i Agree completely with Grace. I like the alphabet one too so I agree with nicole on the fact that we are just really bad at it so it makes it very funny to watch.
ReplyDeletethat's really hard but i think my favorite is the director one, the one where theres one line thats assigned to you for the whole time, oh and the one where you can freeze the scene and make the person change their emotion to whatever you want.
ReplyDeleteHahah i would have to agree with nicole that the alphabet one is so funny for us to do. I also agree with joe because when we read from the script its funny to watch where we actually take the lines in contrast to the script
Mandy Nix was a freaking beast at the alphabet game...but, other than that. We fail miserably.
ReplyDeleteI like watching any improv, but my favorite game to watch would probably be the alphabet game or the director game. I like to play the sun shines on and the, um, pass-on-the-pantomimed-object game, though we haven't quite had a successful trial of that one.
ReplyDeleteBrittany, I like that freeze-frame game too! Especially when someone who is really good with changing personalities gets up there.
Joe, oh my gosh! I forgot about that game!! I love that game! Actually, that one is probably my favorite. I have yet to try the reading part of it. ^_^
Joe-Another reason i like the reading game so much is that the timing is usually a lot better than in the other games.
ReplyDeleteNicole- the alphabet game is so difficult and it always reminds me of the question game
Bristol- that game is really funny cuz you feel like you have to talk over the person you're staring at. soon enough it becomes a shouting match!
By the way this is Grace.
Bristol- I love that game. & Grace is right, it all just becomes one large shouting match. But, I love an excuse to be loud during class. =]
ReplyDeleteNicole- yeah i know u do haha :)
ReplyDeleteGrace- yah i know! u feel like u have 2 get louder so the other person will hear u! its so funny but really loud! lol
One of my favorite improv games is the super hero party game because we always come up with funniest characters
ReplyDeleteSally- I also like the director game because the scenes always get so ridiculous
joe- i like the script game too because its funny to have the person without the script respond to the most random lines
Question for 2/22-2/26:
ReplyDeleteName the most poorly written play/movie you have seen to date and tell me why.
the most poorly written movie that i have seen is probably mall cop. the plot is so predictable and the lines that are supposed to be funny aren't. some of these lines are supposed to be a running joke, but they're not funny. the only time i laughed was at one of the caracters, not what they said. it would have been better if they had just completely cut the comedy.
ReplyDeleteKillers Clowns From Outter Space. And as you can see the title says it all. It was made in the 70's and that's just all I can say the acting was bad, the "scary parts" were bad, the whole thing was horrible. Grace gonna tell you right now Mall Cop was hilarious absolutely hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI say the worst movie I've seen was Manos: The Hands of Fate. The movie is sooooo freaking boring, especially the beginning. The film quality and acting quality wasn't all that great either. The story's also kinda basic as well. If you want to watch, here's a link(MST3K version):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkf67Rf0Iw4&feature=related
ReplyDeleteAnd Grace, I thought Mall Cop was pretty good, dunno why though. I'm not usually into physical humor and some of the scenes did feel kinda cringeworthy. Guess I just felt sympathy for the main character and his actions. But I didn't like the final final plot twist because it seemed totally shoved in at the last second.
i think all the movies ive seen are all pretty good...every movie has its flaw...i hope i dont get countied off 4 this bogus answer :/
ReplyDeleteGrace- Mall cop was awesome! that movie is so funny!
Joe- wow...killers clowns from outer space....nice lol
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteGosh, this is really hard. I can't actually think of a bad play or movie.... I'm with Bristol on this one. All movies have their flaws. But, there isn't one I can think of right off the top of my head that was that bad.
ReplyDeleteGrace- I hate to say it but I too liked Mall Cop.... Haha. =P
Bristol you have to have a movie that you just did not like. If not oh well I do not judge you for it
ReplyDeleteBristol & Nicole- yeah, I feel like i saw a really stupid movie but i can't remember..... oh i remember now it was G-Force. i got that for my little brother for Christmas, watched it with him, and wished i hsdn't wasted my time or my money
ReplyDeleteEveryone- I dont understand why you like mall cop. i thought that it was stupid for the most part. the fact that i don't like slapstick humor might be why i didn't like this movie or the pink panther (and for the record i really do like most kids' movies and i watch them all the time)
um so I agree with Bristol and Nicole i don't think i actually dont like a movie because its true that every movie has their flaws. But if i had to say one thats not my favorite would have to be 7 pounds for different reasons mostly religious ones.
ReplyDeleteGrace i never saw Mall Cop but for a while i thought i wanted too, but then in the end your right it seemed kind of pointless lol
haha joe, yeah ive never seen that movie but it sounds dort of dumb lol but i havent seen it so i cant judge!
I'm sorry, and I am bracing myself for some major beef, but I cannot stand Napoleon Dynamite. No real plot, dumb lines, under developed and unrealistic characters...it just kills me that so many people liked it. Unfortunately, hundreds of movies use these tactics and call themselves "humorous." True appreciation for film has...dissolved. So sad.
ReplyDeleteEveryone, this whole Mall Cop fiasco is insane. It was okay. The humor reflected that of the remake of Get Smart. That was a funny movie. At least the humor wasn't stupid like Napoleon Dynamite or Once Upon A Time In Mexico. Oooo don't get me started on that one. I can't believe Johnny Depp participated in that.
Joe, your description of that movie just makes me want to watch it. Just to see how bad it is.
Sally, I understand your problems with that movie, but I'm thinking it just brought people back to the 80's and 90's and showed them how silly they looked. Either that or it just spawned off meme after meme on the internet so it just caught on.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I wonder how you wuld like this particular anime, Azumanga Daioh. it's copletely random in the type of humor it has, but aren't all animes?
Napolean Dynamite. I really didn't like it because i thought it was really pointless.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sally.
Grace and Caitlyn I never saw Mall Cop either, but I heard it was really bad too.
Joe- ok i got 1...sahara. my mom makes me watch that movie all the time and if i hadnt seen it as many times as she showed it 2 me then i would probably like it...i didnt say that as my answer cuz its not a bad movie...its really good but i dont like it...mrs. smith said to name a movie or play that was poorly written not our tatse in movies. :)
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that Paranormal Activity was a waste of time. I braced myself for this incredibly scary movie and it wasnt even close to what I had anticipated.
ReplyDeleteI agree with britt and sally, I didnt like Napoleon Dynamite either. it was dull and pointless and a wanna be cool movie
Question for 3/22-3/26:
ReplyDeleteName the most well written play/movie you have seen to date and tell me why.
Man on Fire. Its tear jerking and it has comic relief and above all action it is so well written and performed by my main man denzel washington. It has everything a oscar winning movie should have.
ReplyDeleteThe most well written movie I have seen is the BBC A&E version of Pride and Prejudice. Extensive vocabulary is used (mine improved after watching it a few times)and the dialogue establishes characters very well. Many of the lines are witty without being crude and imply things that are not necessarily said.
ReplyDeletestupid wow guy said mine. Forrest Gump was really well written and Tom Hanks played the part extremely well. The overall story was great.
ReplyDeletei would have to say the Blind Side because they did a really great job of portraying somebody who lived and poverty and also the role of a loving Christian family. I honestly just love that movie and it was well written and the emotions were overwhelming!
ReplyDeleteJoe i love Man on Fire i completely agree with you...great movie!
Alex i love forest gump and whenever i think of forest gump i think of new york because of the restaurant we went to!!! oh man i miss NYC we need to go back that was a great trip guys!
Caitlyn- I have never seen the Blind SIde but it sounds really good.
ReplyDeleteBristol and Alex- I would have to agree with you about that. It's quite ironic, isn't it?
Mary Poppins. It was probably the best performance of any production that I've seen EVER. The singing was incredible, the moving sets and costumes were insane, and the acting...indescribable. I'm running out of "in-" words. But seriously, everything about the musical was fresh and seamless and truly high-quality. Not to mention that seeing it with good friends heightens the experience. :)
ReplyDeleteJoe, I half-expected you to put Zombieland. XD The other half expected Man on Fire.
Grace, those are the best dialogues. Oscar Wilde captures that in his plays and novels as well. A wonderful quality for any entertainment to have.
Oh wow that last time I actually posted lol. I thought the forum had conked out on me or something.
ReplyDeleteSally-I wonder if Mary Poppins maybe has the potential to become the next Phantom in terms of its success. You all gave it such positive reviews for everything.
Caitlyn-Was that the movie we watched in health class or somewhere about the gangs and inner city and stuff?
catilyn-i really wanted 2 see the blind side1 but my i had 2 take my bro and sis 2 another movie :/ lol did it come out on DVD yet? :)
ReplyDeleteI agree Pride and Prejudice is really good BBC version. Very nice vocabulary, which I adore.
ReplyDeleteOh, I saw Much to do About Nothing, at UNC and they did it in the arboretum, which made it even more entertaining because the actors were right in front of you and you could easily interact with everything they were doing, as were the originals of Shakespeare's plays.
Pride and Prejudice is a classic you have to love it. The use of the language and exploration of the way the use the words crisp it a phenomenal movie.
ReplyDeletecatylin the blind side equals an amazing movie just absolutely spectacular sandra bullock was at her best in that film.
I (and hopefully every other sensible person) think that Phantom of the Opera is a masterpiece. I absolutely love the morbid and darkly romantic storyline. And the music is incredible
ReplyDeleteI also would have to agree with Joe and Nicole about Pride and Prejudice. I only saw 4 or 5 episodes of the BBC version but I love the movie.
Question for 3/29-4/1:
ReplyDeleteWhat do you believe is the most challenging part of bringing a neutral scene to life?
I guess it's trying to not go with first choice on how to say the lines and trying to incorporate every single line into a good plot.
ReplyDeleteTo me the most challenging part of a neutral scene would be thinking up a scenario for it.
ReplyDeleteAlex- good point. sticking to the lines is hard too.
I think that the hardest part is creating a good setting with a lot of details. It isn't hard to come up with the details yourself, but having your partner also notice them. I think it is also difficult to have a rhythm at all because you don't know the lines.
ReplyDeleteAlex and Bristol- I agree. It is difficult to think about how to say the lines differently and have appropriate pauses to emphasize different things.
The fact that nothing is going on.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with alex and bristol it is very difficult to have such a different point of view on those particular cues and how to say the lines tough stuff.
Figuring out exactly how to represent the area around you so that other people can know where and who you are.
ReplyDeleteGrace, yes, details details details! That's what it is! It's the details that make the scene and it's the DETAILS that make it so hard to accomplish.
Alex, true the lines are also a part of the struggle. It would help if we could memorize them first instead of having to read them. I guess that's part of the point.
Sally- totally agree with you there! setting is really hard! lol :)
ReplyDeleteSally- establishing a setting really is hard because you know what you're doing, but making the little details reveal where you are can be very difficult because you ususally don't think about them and you have to think about other things.
ReplyDeleteI think like coming up with a creative environment and scenario isn't really that hard. But, being able to get the audience to understand all of those details is ridiculous. It's like trying to get someone to read your mind.
ReplyDeleteJoe-haha...agreed. Literally, nothing is going on.
getting motivated- it hard to try and get into a pretty basic scene
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nicole W. and Sally about the difficulty of setting and environment
ReplyDeleteWierd...my last time I didnt post apparently.
ReplyDeleteSally, the point of the exercise probly is to be able to make the audience know the situation with action and not lines. So yeah, interesting.
Joe, what do you mean? You can make the situation as complex as you like. :)
No forum this week.
ReplyDeleteWow the week i finally remember to do this there's no forum, thats just my luck!lol
ReplyDeleteSo I'm going to catch myself up really sorry about that by the way.
For the week 3/22-3/26: A really well written movie or play, I can think of that I've seen recently, is Phantom of the Opera. The writer does a really good job of creating a play that just about everyone loves. Everyone feels like they can relate to it in some form or another so it really is a play that grabs your attention. I'm not going to lie that was really hard for me to pick something thats really well written because I just always go by if I liked it not whether it was written well.
I would definitely have to agree with Caitlyn because the Blind Side was amazing and I feel the writers did a very good job.
I also agree with Alex and Bristol about Forest Gump because it has just become a widely known and loved movie. In fact, I just recently watched it and realized why everyone is so crazy about it lol.
For week 3/29-4/1: I feel the most challenging thing to bringing a neutral scene to live is getting the audience to realize what your talking about and how you feel. I believe its also difficult to think of a scene in your mind when all you really have is lines.
yeah alex I agree you want to try and be spontaneous and thing of other ways to say the lines but sometimes thats easier said than done.
I also agree with Grace its sometimes hard to get your partner to be in tune with the details and environment you see and have set up in your head.
